About us

Leslie Dobson

I have just retired from 33 years as a GP in Guisborough ; together with Barbara Scott I have been responsible for setting up the service and will be responsible for the ongoing administration of the service. I am very happy to act as a contact point for doctors wishing to access the service and hope to do some formal mentoring for sick and struggling colleagues am very committed to this service being totally anonymous and confidential. As area GPC representative I shall have some input into the national doctor’s occupational health scheme proposed by the government also.

I have been a GP at Borough Road and Nunthorpe in Middlesbrough since 1984. I have recently joined GP health on the retirement of Barbara Scott. I hope to act as a contact point for doctors wishing to or unsure about accessing health care for themselves. I am able to do some formal mentoring for sick or struggling colleagues. Or if you need developmental or career help.

I am now also responsible for updating this Website so suggestions and criticisms are very welcome

I am investigating the possibilities of taking an additional qualification in Occupational Health

I am very committed to encouraging Doctors to seek confidential heath advice early before they damage themselves, their families and possibly their patients.

From 1990 to August 2000 I was a Consultant Psychiatrist to Northallerton Health Services NHS Trust, based at the Friarage Hospital, where I was also the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education. Before taking up my post in Northallerton in 1990, I served for eleven years in the Royal Army Medical Corps, both as a military psychiatrist and as a general duties medical officer, in Britain, Northern Ireland and overseas. During this period, I gained considerable experience in the recognition and management of psychological problems following traumatic events. In my time as a clinical tutor, I was heavily involved in mentoring and supporting doctors at a difficult time in their careers. I have lectured on psychiatric aspects of occupational health to a wide variety of bodies in recent years.
